I've been pretty antsy to get back out on the water with the lower temps we've had the past few weeks. I;'ve always been a red kinda guy, if I ever caught a trout it was because he was in my redfish hole. Then again you'd have to catch something there to make it your hole.
With forecasts calling for partly cloudy, 70 and winds at <10, I decided to head out this morning down to corpus to fish for some trout. I launched at about 7 to make my mile paddle to the shoreline I had my eye on. It was sandy with some mud and shell and looked promising on google earth. The fog as the sun came up with pretty thick and I didnt think that the sun would be out any like I was hoping, I was right.I I waded this good looking area in about 3-4' of water with a couple bumps but nothing more. Thankfully, I had a plab B. Plan B was to fish the numerous reefs about a 1/2 miles paddle away in open water. I made a couple drifts in 4' of water and eventually landed a dink- A keeper, but a dink nonetheless. He fell for a gulp doubletaiil white/chart on 1/8th jighead slowly bounced. A few more drifts and I was getting worried, there were no signs of the Sun even existing and I left my sweatshirt in the car. I decided to hit up another reef closer to the launch on the wind blown shore. It was roughly 2-3' deep so I slapped on a cork and gulp shrimp set just above the reef and quickly landed a trout. I milked this reef for 2 more fish, ranging from 15-18", capping the day with 4 on the stringer along with a few throwbacks. It was a slack high tide all morning. It wasn't fast and furious , and the size wasnt really there, but I accomplished what I set out to do and also gained some insight on what to look for next time. Great morning on the water, headed home by 11:30
