Made it down to corpus this morning by myself to the same place as last weekend. Launched at sunrise and started my voyage to the marsh, the winds were pretty light and the tide was slowly moving out, almost slack. I got back to the spot and to my surprise the water was even lower than what it was last time. As I portage over and hit the bank, one step was solid ground the very next I was thigh deep in mud! Looking around I knew I wouldnt be doing any marsh fishing.
I made my way to the drain and out the marsh, not seeing any bait in the drain. I hit the mouth and turned to fishing against the bank, that was the ticket. Throwing a saltwater assassin sea shad I picked up a 16"" trout right away. Very next cast I hook a solid trout and as I try to coax him into the net, he spits the hook. As this is going down I decide to move down maybe 100yds to some birds I see working a shell pad. After working them for a little bit I eventually pull out another trout of same size. Work this area for some time and don't manage to pull anything else out. No pictures of the trout, thought I was about to find the bite and didnt want to bother with my phone (still no camera, R.I.P).
Long story short, I head back into the marsh as the tide comes in looking for some takers, tons of bait no feesh. Paddle back out to the shorline and pick up 2 rat reds. Heading back to my truck I fish the drop off at the mouth of the drain and pick up a flounder just under 14. I caught all fish on a red/white salt water assassin sea shad. The weather was great all day, clear skies no wind and about 80, but the water decided not to show up which made the fishing back there a little tricky. I did bring 2 fish home so beats a skunk. Looking forward to the continued warm weather and marsh season starting back up.
