Another day, another adventure. This is the 2nd week in a row that I have been able to head out and do some fishing, is this real life? Having found some fish last week, I talked my dad into heading down with me this morning to see if the fish were holding in the same patterns.
We just about didn't make it to the launch from our 3 hour commute. About 1/2 way there we ran into some mechanical problems and had to pull over a minute. Thankfully We got things going and reached our launch spot at about 5AM. The winds were blowing pretty decent, a bit higher than the 6-12 that was forecasted. Having had them dialed in with bait last week, I went ahead and set up my rods for it and netted a bunch of good finger mullet and piggy, along with some larger mullet for cut.

We began the morning scouting a cut shoreline. The fish were there. We spotted several tails, but what really gave them away was their crashing in the grass. We threw a cork up in the grass, and I decided to also throw cut mullet along the slope of the cut. IT was maybe 5 minutes later and I landed the first red at 23". At this point im thinking its going to be a busy day. The morning went on and the fish started to go into hiding. We decided to move around to another area nearby. After about 1/2 hour working a gut we come up with an undersized flounder. We decided to move back to our original spot to finish up the day. Shortly after staking up on a sand/grass bottom dropoff my dad hooks up with a 20" red after realizing his cork went MIA. I managed a rat red, a good sized ray and a couple big gafftop. It hit 2 and the wind was howling, we decided to call it a day. The fish seemed to be layed up in the same structure, but with the wind today it made it pretty difficult to spot the fish so it turned out to be more of a blind casting and bait soaking type of day. I didnt take any pictures of the keeper reds on my camera because I was just trying to throw them in my cooler bag ASAP and rebait. You guys will just have to take my word on that one..but i'm tellin ya, they were about 20lbs, had damn near 100 spots each, and wagged their tails on command.
We got home and had a pleasent surprise on the front porch from UPS. A medium 7' TFO spinning rod to pair up with a new Penn Battle 2. Would have been great to have and try out today, just gives me an excuse to head back town in the near future...not that I need an excuse to fish. Ill post a review of this rod after as soon as I get some water time with it, hopefully early next week. I gotta say though, it looks and feels great. I have a TFO BVK fly rod and love it, and with the lifetime warranty they're hard to beat. Best of all, they're based in Texas. Go check'em out.
