This one will be short and sweet. I had plans with a friend to go fishing today, She had been wanting to way back in July and has never fished saltwater, so we went out on the canoe to one of my favorite flats, located in the corpus area.
Forecast said 10-15, but when we launched at 8Am the weather was nasty! Wins were said to be 17, very cloudy, water was really beat up and rough. Tide was outgoing till about 9. Had to cross some rough waters to get to our spot, but we eventually made it. Made some drifts for an hour with nothing, so we decided to kind of explore and see some wildlife (were both science teachers to be, in the spring).
The sun came out at around 1030 and the wind died a bit, I knew we were going to get into some reds. On our first drift tossing gold weedless spoons, kayleigh landed a 23" red. A great first catch, not to mention on artificials, she was killing it. Over the course of the next few hours, She landed a 19" red, and I landed a 24", 22", and several rat reds plus a 15" trout. All fish were caught on a flat in about 3' of water, blind casting to potholes on the gold spoon.
