It's been way too long since I've been down south, so decided to meet up with a buddy this morning and head down to corpus. He had a new ambassador he wanted to slime up, and has yet to try out the canoe so we had a few things to accomplish. We launched at 7 and headed to out spot, drifting a flat that has been productive in the past. The wind was said to be about 10, and tide incoming. We made a few drifts with nothing to show so we moved over to another. Brett missed a nice blow up on his superspook, we watched as the red sat idle, back half out of the water just staring at the topwater. A few twitches of the lure and he tried again but no dice. No hookup, but it was a great site to see. We drifted a few more areas, ranging from 2-3' deep resulting in some bumps and each snagging a rat red. We buzzed over to a a grassline to try some finger mullet on a cork up tight in the grass. It was about 11 and we had to leave by noon. Brett managed a just under red on his new ambassador, mission accomplished. Before heading out I really wanted to try wading a particular flat again before we packed up. I managed to hookup with a red, but after a 15-20 second fight he spit the hook. We were throwing 1/4oz weedless gold spoons on the flats, my go to for drifting. That ended up being the last of the action of the day. We were packed up and headed home shortly after 12 The weather was great, couldn't have asked for a better day. It was pretty warm and sunny by about 9-9:30 and allowed for great sight casting to pot holes. Great catching up with my buddy and glad we found a little something despite nothing to clean tonight. Great day on the water with good company. If weather permits I am looking to make a solo trip down next saturday, we all know how that goes.
