I launched the kayak (still have my revo, never selling that thing) at about 6:15 just as the sun rose. Initially there was quite a bit of bait in the water but that quickly dispersed at the sun came up. I made my way through the twists and turns on the various channels, grass flat, and cuts, but there just wansnt much activity.
I came to a point in the marsh with protruding grass as it turned into a small cut, threw my favorite black/chart paddle tail at it and had a stud of a red smack it instantly. I fought it for a good few minutes, even felt confident enough to take a picture of the battle as it was the first in a while! As soon as I got its head turned back to the kayak and got its runs out of it, it popped the hook with a thud of its tail. Heart breaker. But, its those things that get you coming back again for more. I used to fish this marsh exclusively for a few summers when I lived in Sugar Land, so it was a lot of fun to come back to it and see a lot of familiar territory as well as some changes.
I fished a drop off on the way back to the launch but nothing produced. This was the first trip out with my new Lews Custom Lite reel and FTU ML aciton Green Rod. It's definitely the best setup I have owned. It is very light and balanced, reel is super smooth, rod is comfortable, great action, love the full cork handle on it. Go get you one! Weather is looking like it may be decent this weekend. I am excited to get back into the grove of things and hit the water at least once a week. Tight Lines,
